Read this first
These are counts, not rates. data.police.uk street-level crime API publishes how many crimes were recorded near a point; it publishes no population figure to divide by. A district with a station, shops and bars will record more crime than a residential one because more people pass through it, not necessarily because residents are more likely to be a victim. Recorded crime is also only crime that was reported and recorded, and reporting rates vary by crime type and by area.

Our take · opinion, not advice
Our take on London crime counts: counts are a prompt, not a verdict
London’s 9 districts with a published figure add up to 16,820 recorded crimes for July 2026, with counts from 1,209 in N16 to 2,740 in SE1, enough of a gap to notice and not enough to decide anything on.
For sellers, a buyer who has read these numbers will ask about them, so be ready with the plain facts about your street rather than a defensive answer.
Sell houseFor buyers, a count is a question to ask, not an answer: violent crime led the recorded categories at 23%, so find out whether that is what affects the road you are considering.
Walk the street after dark and on a weekday morning, study the police’s street-level map for that postcode, and let your conveyancer chase any disclosure.

Reading the numbers
What the numbers show
Across the 9 London postcode districts with a published figure for July 2026, police recorded 16,820 crimes in total within roughly a mile of each district centroid. The median district recorded 2,019.
N16 has the lowest recorded crime count of the districts listed (1,209), and SE1 the highest (2,740).
The spread across the city is wide: the highest-counting district recorded about 2.3 times as many crimes as the lowest. Much of a gap that size reflects what is in the radius: a city-centre district with shops, bars and a station will out-count a residential one before any difference in how people behave.
The most frequently recorded category across these districts was violent crime, at 23% of all recorded crimes in the month.
